TOWN OF SPIDER LAKE, SAWYER CO., WI
ROAD COMMITTEE MEETING
MARCH 21, 2017
The Town of Spider Lake Road Committee meeting was called to order by Committee Chair McGuiness at 1:00 PM. Present were McGuiness, Hucker, Brandt, Clerk Ferda and Lead Worker Mark Matchett.
Summer Road Projects – Discussion was held regarding what road projects could be done this year. Matchett suggested doing one of the following projects: Paving the first 1.25 miles of Murphy Blvd. (from Highway 77 to Boys Camp Road)., paving 1.15 miles of Town Hall Road, paving 1.25 miles of Hahns Road or paving approximately 1 mile of Green Point Road. Hucker advised that the 2017 road construction and maintenance budget is $176,387.00. Discussion was held whether or not any of these roads would need an engineering assessment. McGuiness and Hucker suggested paving Murphy Blvd. and to obtain an engineering assessment of Town Hall Road if needed. Crack filling was also discussed. Repair work is still needed on FR 205, Rock Lake Road and Pederson Road. The town is still waiting to hear from FEMA and the forest service regarding receiving any funds for the repairs on these roads. Town roads will be assessed once the road bans have been lifted.
Signage – Matchett presented a summary of the street signs in the town. He stated that there are many inconsistencies throughout the town with signage. He would like to change the yellow/black non-reflective street signs, the white/black street signs and the roads that have no street signs to signs that meet the federal recommendations at an approximate cost of $900.00. He would also like to change twenty non-reflective stop signs to meet the federal recommendations at an approximate cost of $600.00. Brandt noted that some of the signs on the sign board at Upper A & Hahns have become very “artsy”. These signs should be routed brown and yellow signs. Zoning Administrator Boss should be notified.
Road Name Change – Matchett advised the committee that there is a ¾ mile section of road that the town calls Seeley Road. The county and plat maps refer to this section as Boedecker Road. Due to problems with 911 calls and for consistency, he would like the Town to change the name from Seeley Road to Boedecker Road. Matchett advised that the land adjacent to this section of road is owned by the county. No residents live in this area. Motion was made by Hucker and 2nd by McGuiness to recommend that section of road known as Seeley Road be changed to Boedecker Road provided that any adjacent landowners have no objections. All in favor. Motion carried. Matchett will follow up with the county. This matter will be placed on the April town board meeting agenda.
Matchett advised the committee that the pickup will need new cutting edges for the plow before next winter. A tire on the grader is cupping and needs to be changed. The grader and loader need more complicated scheduled maintenance and Matchett feels the road crew does not have the knowledge to perform the maintenance. He will obtain an estimate from a CAT mechanic regarding the cost of the scheduled maintenance.
Hucker advised that RM Bay Logging will once again be logging during the road bans. He will obtain an agreement and a check from RM Bay Logging (in lieu of a performance bond) as the town has done in the past.
Motion to adjourn was made by Hucker and 2nd by Brandt. All in favor. Motion carried.
