TOWN OF SPIDER LAKE, SAWYER CO., WI
ANNUAL TOWN MEETING – APRIL 16, 2013
The Town of Spider Lake Annual Town meeting of the Electors was called to order by Town Chair Hucker at 6:00 PM. Thirteen electors, which included seven elected officials, were present.
The minutes of the Annual Town meeting held 4-10-12 were reviewed. Motion was made by Case Mazik and 2nd by Kay Hucker to approve the minutes. All in favor. Motion carried. 13 aye votes and no nay votes.
Ferda reviewed the two financial reports that were distributed to the electors. Hucker noted that the 2012 year end balance is large due to receiving advance payments of property taxes. A good portion of this balance was paid out to the other taxing jurisdictions (schools, state and county) in January 2013. The ending cash balance after these payments were made was approximately $5,000.00. The cash balance is low primarily due to road equipment needing to be purchased, in some cases, three years earlier than expected. A second new dump truck may be purchased later this year. At this time, it has not been decided if it will be an outright cash purchase or be partially financed. When the weather breaks, road conditions will be assessed.
The Board budgeted $500.00 for donations. A motion was made by Dolores Brandt and 2nd by Jerry Ferda to donate $100.00 to Fishing Has No Boundaries, $100.00 to the Spider Lake Cemetery and $100.00 to the Sawyer County Canine Initiative. Bob Schroeder stated he would like $200.00 to be donated to the library for large print books. The motion was amended to donate $100.00 to Fishing Has No Boundaries, $100.00 to the Spider Lake Cemetery, $100.00 to the Sawyer County Canine Initiative and $200.00 to the Weiss Community Library specifically for the purchase of large print books. All in favor. Motion carried. 13 aye votes and no nay votes.
Kay Hucker asked Fire Chief Brandt for the details regarding the annual fire department picnic. Brandt advised that the picnic will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Brats and hotdogs will be served this year. Proceeds may be put towards the replacement or expansion of the fire department facilities. Hucker advised that $5,000.00 has been budgeted this year for a feasibility study for the garage and fire facilities as both departments need more space for storage. The town hall is also becoming short on space. George & Dolores Brandt installed cabinets with a countertop in the main meeting room for extra storage.
Case Mazik inquired about the status of the old fire truck. John Cerman reported he has a couple of good leads. If they do not pan out, the truck will be auctioned off on the Wisconsin Surplus website.
Jo Mazik reported that she has approached the Quiet Lakes Association and the Spider Chain of Lakes Association for donations of photographs, works of art, etc. that show off the natural beauty of Spider Lake. She would like to decorate the wall above the new cabinets in the town hall.
Motion to adjourn was made by Mike McGuiness and 2nd by Case Mazik. All in favor. Motion carried.
