TOWN OF SPIDER LAKE, SAWYER COUNTY
ROAD COMMITTEE MEETING
JULY 2, 2012
Committee Chair McGuiness called the Town of Spider Lake Road Committee meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Present were McGuiness, Hucker, Brandt, Clerk Ferda and Gary McCracken.
Discussion was held regarding the replacement of one dump truck. Motion was made by Brandt and 2nd by Hucker to approve the five year lease/purchase contract from Meyer Sales Company, Inc. (financing through Navistar Capital) for a 2013 International 7400 SFA 4 X 2 dump truck at an estimated total cost of $101,107.81 (with trade-in) with semi-annual payments of approximately $11,011.82 each. All in favor. Motion carried.
Discussion was held regarding the costs to repair or replace the tractor/mower/broom. A new mower mounted on the existing tractor would cost approximately $30,000.00-35,000.00 and repairs to the tractor would cost approximately $15,000.00-20,000.00. Quotes were received from Lulich Implement for two New Holland models at $82,000.00 and $91,700.00. If the town chose to lease from Lulich, the interest rate would be 6.29%. If the town chose to borrow from the state, the interest rate for a five year loan would be at 2.75%. The County would charge $121.92 an hour to do the mowing at a cost of approximately $14,600.00. The town could rent the equipment from Weyer Equipment Company at a cost of $1,800.00 weekly or $5,400.00 a month. The committee decided to get a quote from John Deere for a lease purchase and outright purchase to compare to the Lulich Implement quotes.
Motion was made by Hucker and 2nd by McGuiness to accept the bid from Fahrner Asphalt Sealers in the amount of 4,650.00 for the crack filling of Murphy Blvd. from Balsam Road to the end. All in favor. Motion carried.
A discussion was held whether or not to reconstruct/pave Brandt Road this year due to the fact that a dump truck is being replaced and the tractor/mower/broom needs to be repaired or replaced. Motion was made by Brandt and 2nd by Hucker to accept the bid from Monarch Paving in the amount of $103,475.48 to reconstruct approximately one mile of Brandt Road starting at the intersection of Morgan Rd. and proceeding west which will include the Ole Creek culvert. All in favor. Motion carried. Hucker noted that future road work for the next couple of years may have to be cut back due to the need to replace additional town equipment and to address other infrastructure needs (e.g. garage, fire station, etc.).
Motion was made by Hucker and 2nd by Brandt to adjourn. All in favor. Motion carried.
