10/18/17 – Budget Workshop Meeting Minutes

OCTOBER 18, 2017

The Town of Spider Lake Budget Workshop meeting was called to order by Town Chair Hucker at 4:00 PM. Present were Hucker, Brandt, McGuiness, Cerman, Huot and Clerk Ferda. Treasurer Overman and Fire Chief Nelson were absent.

Motion was made by Brandt and 2nd by McGuiness to adopt Resolution #2017-03 (copy attached) amending the 2017 budget. Motion carried. 5 aye and no nay votes.

The complete 2018 budget compiled to date was reviewed by the Board and changed where necessary. Committees have made recommendations for salary increases for the road crew (2.3% on base salary), the solid waste attendant and town hall janitor at $0.25 per hour and the mowing fee increased by $5.00 per mow. Due to additional responsibilities, Hucker proposed a salary increase of $250.00 per month for the zoning administrator. With an application of $129,000.00 from surplus, the proposed 2017 levy needed to balance the 2018 budget is $265,537.00 which is the maximum levy allowed by the state for 2017. The increase of $1,061.00 in the levy is due to net new construction and is an increase of approximately .004 over 2016’s allowable levy.

Motion was made by McGuiness and 2nd by Huot to approve the proposed 2018 budget as amended at this budget workshop. Motion carried. 5 aye and no nay votes.

The board did not convene an executive session.

Item #5 on the agenda (possible action by the town board to adopt a resolution supporting a percentage increase in the allowable 2017 levy) was not acted upon as the 2017 levy does not need to be increased beyond what is proposed to balance the 2018 budget.

Motion to adjourn was made by Huot and McGuiness. All in favor. Motion carried.
